Sean Baker’s films have consistently explored the lives of those on the margins, particularly sex workers, as in Tangerine (2015), Red Rocket (2021) and Starlet (2012). In that sense, they are films about labour; the labour of performance, calling to the various power dynamics at the heart of these interactions.
